While confirming that his creative juices flow at night, AR Rahman denies criticism that his work has become repetitive. However the composer admits he is wary of sudden changes.

Some critics say your music has become repetitive. Is that true?
I certainly experiment with my music but since there are so many demands and commercial commitments, I never make any sudden changes. However in Kisna  this is not so. Ismail Darbar and I have jointly composed music for the film and I am sure most people would find it hard to distinguish between the two.

There were a series of very similar dance numbers choreographed to your tunes. Why?
See, it all depends on what the market demands at a particular time. After Hum Se Hai Muqabla became a hit, people wanted me to work with Prabhu Deva again and again. I still sometimes compose such tunes.

Why did Subhash Ghai want more than one music composer for Kisna ?
In fact it was I who proposed the idea to Mr Ghai. Since I was busy with several other projects, Ismail was roped in as the other music director for Kisna . Besides the fact that he is brilliant at what he does, Ismail was also Mr Ghai's choice.

Do you insist on your own choice of singers when you sign a film?
I work only with people I am very comfortable with. Till now I have never been forced to work with any singer. I always discuss things with the director or the singer in case I have a problem.

Is it true that you compose music only at night?
I do like composing at night because this is the time when there are very few disturbances and I can concentrate fully on my work.
